Lazio-Roma: Honors Even in the Derby della Capitale 0-0

Stadio Olimpico (Rome)

A scoreless Derby della Capitale leaves both teams with chances to qualify for the next Champions League.

Roma a little surprised by the extremely aggressive attitude of Lazio at the start of the match. Inzaghi‘s players put pressure on the Roma midfielders with an organized and well-thought strategy. The Giallorossi have suffered in finding the necessary space to develop their plays. Dzeko and Schick remained isolated in the offensive sector, failing to catch balls to pick up the team.

After about thirty minutes, Lazio’s performance suffered a decline, probably physical, and Roma started to create more opportunities. The shot by Bruno Peres hit the post after a quick and enlightening ball through by Radja Nainggolan. The first half ends 0-0 after a battle on the field made of tackles and lots of competitive nastiness.

A thrilling second half with both teams very close to break the deadlock several times. Lazio pushed a lot also at the beginning of the second 45 minutes but without finding the goal. Good offensive propulsion that did not bring the three points to Formello. Roma reacted after suffering and tried to fight back. Di Francesco played Under for Schick to exploit the speed and reactivity of the Turk. Inzaghi immediately responded by playing the powerful Lukaku to contain the offensive outbursts of the Turkish talent.

When Radu picked up the red card for a foul on the Roma’s right-winger, the match suffered a further aftershock. The Lupi went close to the opener three times with Dzeko that hit the crossbar as well. His header kept Lazio alive after their disappointing European defeat. The Biancoazzuri, though, had a great chance with Marusic after a silly misunderstanding between Fazio and Juan Jesus. The shot of the Lazio fullback went slightly wide.

Roma keeps its third position in the standings. Lazio is one point ahead of Inter. The Champions League battle goes on.
