Monchi Refused Chelsea Offer For Dzeko

In the last transfer window, the Bosnian star was almost ready to sign with the British side but Monchi didn’t like Chelsea’s offer.

The Roma sporting director was the man in charge of several negotiations during the January transfer window. When Chelsea knocked on the doors of Trigoria to ask information about Emerson Palmieri, Monchi collected the offers and finalized a single very profitable deal. Later on, the Blues demonstrated an interest for the Bosnian star as well and the Spaniard assessed the feasibility of a new operation with the British side.

In a recent interview released to ‘L’Originale’ a TV program broadcasted by ‘Sky Sports Italia’, Monchi explained these negotiations.

“We were in contact with Chelsea for Emerson but then they expressed an interest in Dzeko as well. We made our economic request. Later on, they have found an agreement with the striker. Let me say that we were interested in selling Emerson and we did it. Instead, we didn’t like their other offer and we kept the player. It’s never a good moment when you have to sell but the fans must understand that an alternative is always out there… a valid alternative. Monchi wouldn’t have played as a striker.

Although we have Schick, we would have purchased another striker. Anyway, we trust Patrik [Schick] and Gregoire [Defrel]. Giroud was a possible name but not the only alternative.”
