Monchi | AS Roma sporting director

The Roma sporting director spoke of many topics to explain the overall strategies of the club.

Monchi is still working hard to strengthen the team. Although the January transfer window is over, the Spaniard is weaving a web of contacts to bring different players to the Italian capital. The Roma fans are waiting for the renewal of Manolas, Florenzi, and Alisson but the man in charge of this operations is working at 360 degrees for the sake of the club.

In a recent interview released to ‘L’Originale’ a program broadcasted by Sky Sports Italia, Monchi analyzed various topics.

“I am in love with this city since I landed in Rome. I understood the passion of the Roma fans for this club.”

The Spaniard focussed on Salah‘s deal: “we can get up to €50 million but in that moment we had to do that operation. We needed to sell a player. Then, Neymar, Mbappè, and Coutinho‘s operations changed the rules in the market. I’m sure that Salah’s overall prize hasn’t been the best but this is what we had to do in that moment. When I got here, he was already speeding up the process to go to Liverpool. In today’s football players’ will is a priority.”

“I understand the fans. They don’t care about money, they want to win trophies. But the numbers are important for the club. We need to manage this club properly. We have to find the right path to win. But we have to do it continuously. I am asking for trust. I am a different person from that arrived in Rome a few months ago. Now I know the fans and the city.”

Monchi is also ready for the upcoming double International clash against Shakhtar Donetsk.

“The Champions League is really important. It is the best competition in the world. We can do important things for us and for our fans.”
