Inter and Roma take a point each after a match played openly and fearlessly.
Roma collected a point on the road at San Siro after having played a great first half and having demonstrated physical issues during the second 45 minutes. The giallorossi imposed their pace to the game since the beginning by pressing Spalletti‘s guys and demolishing them in midfield.
A very good performance by Gerson, a player able to keep the team perfectly balanced on the field. Nainggolan‘s athletic fury made the difference as well. Inter suffered Roma’s offensive approach and the ability of the Lupi to keep the lines very tight and high. Although El Shaarawy‘s opener is a result of a silly mistake by Santon, the giallorossi deserved the lead before the halftime break.
The second 45 minutes highlighted all the mental and physical problems of the Lupi. When Gerson was replaced by Bruno Peres due to a probable calf injury Roma’s match suffered a dramatic outcome. The Brazilian right-back had a terrible impact on the game and Perisic exploited his tactical weaknesses with no mercy. Di Francesco decided to play a 3-4-3 in order to tackle the offensive strategies of the nerazzuri but his decision did not lead to the desired result. Vecino scored the equalizer five minutes before the end of the regular time after Inter’s domination in midfield.
Inter-Roma ended 1-1 keeping the nerazzurri three points ahead of the giallorossi in the race for the Champions League qualification. The Lupi still have a game in hand that will take place on Wednesday at Marassi stadium against Sampdoria.
