Roma closes its 2017 with another sloppy performance. The Serie A home match against Sassuolo highlights the lack of creativity of the giallorossi.
Football is weird sometimes. You can dominate on the field but if you don’t score goals you cannot bring the match home. This is what’s happening to Roma in December. A very bad month for the Lupi, a group of players unable to kick the ball into the net. Although Di Francesco‘s men develop proper offensive strategies their sterility in scoring goals is affecting their 2017-18 campaign. A solution must be found rapidly to avoid a very disappointing second part of the season.
Roma lacks creativity. I’ve spoken about this in a previous article blaming the midfield line. Di Francesco has great midfielders at his disposal but none of them whave immense creativity. This is a real problem that Monchi could try to solve in the January transfer window. It will not be easy though. The Spaniard is a master in discovering talented players but the Lupi need a midfielder able to make a difference in the current season.
Nainggolan is a force of nature. His performance against Sassuolo was remarkable but he cannot do everything. Strootmann is a rock but we cannot expect a genial ball through from the Dutchman. Pellegrini is a great talent but also a player who needs time to demonstrate his qualities.
Roma needs creativity. Sometimes, its plays are tasteless and an injection of salt would be necessary.
