Chievo held Roma at the Bentegodi stadium on Sunday. The giallorossi failed to reduce the gap with Inter and Juventus.
A haunted day for the Lupi on the road. Di Francesco’s men couldn’t score the opener against Maran’s crew after having shot on goal 26 times. Sorrentino is the MVP of the match having repeatedly saved his team from Roma’s attacks.
Schick, Gerson, Dzeko, Gonalons and Kolarov’s offensive efforts were defused by a top goalkeeper who probably would have deserved a career with a top domestic or European side.
Roma needed the three points to reduce the gap with those teams that are currently ahead in the standings but its efforts didn’t produce the hoped result. In the second half, Di Francesco pushed his guys ahead playing all his offensive men. Dzeko and Under entered on the field creating a marked tactical unbalance.
67% ball possession, 69% aerial duel success, and 80% pass success have not been enough to break the deadlock against the ‘clivensi’. Roma has completely dominated the scene collecting 531 passes (274 for Chievo) and 42 crosses (vs 16).
The Lupi needed more malice in front of the net after having played a very good offensive match. Although Chievo defended its fortress with an extraordinary dedication, the giallorossi should have done something more to score the opener putting the game on their side.
A very disappointing final result for the team of the Italian capital, a club with great ambitions but that is still working to become cynical.
