A positive Champions League draw for Roma. The Lupi will face the top Ukrainian side. The first match on the road in February, return in March.
Roma cannot complain about today’s Champions League draw. The giallorossi will face Shakhtar Donetsk avoiding super powerhouses Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. Although the Ukrainian club seems to be weaker than the Spanish and German sides, Di Francesco must meticulously prepare this double match to avoid bad surprises.
Shakhtar is a very dangerous squad with a great international experience. In the group stage, Fonseca’s crew kicked Napoli off after having defeated the Partenopei in the 2017-18 Champions League inaugural match.

Fonseca’s 4-2-3-1 is very offensive and perfectly highlights the quality of his players. A group with good technical skills, temperament, and experience that can put Roma in trouble. Their efficiency, especially at home, makes the first match really tough for the Lupi. 180 minutes that must be played with tactical wisdom thinking about the compounding effect of the away goals.
The first match will be played in Ukraine in February while the return clash will take place at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome in March.
Roma has the possibility to fuel its Champions League dreams.
