Roma defeats Fiorentina thanks to a convincing second half. The Lupi collected their 12th consecutive Serie A away win.
Ups and down for Roma in the first half at the Artemio Franchi in Florence. The giallorossi suffered the offensive attacks of the Viola, a team able to put the ball vertical toward the sides and be dangerous with its wingers.
It was not the best performance for Kolarov who seemed to be a bit tired after the Champions League effort. A remarkable offensive performance for Gerson who scored a brace but lacked in the defensive phase. The Brazilian must be blamed for the first goal of Vertetout and didn’t help Florenzi in covering his side of competence.
Pioli’s men made a great first 45 minutes. Gil Dias outperformed Kolarov on the left side of the field demonstrating great endurance and technique. Although the Lupi kept the possession of the ball for most of the match, Fiorentina seemed to be very dangerous counterattacking. Simeone’s goal is a great header from within the box. The Argentine found the right position just between Fazio and Kolarov and stubbed Alisson undisturbed.
Roma’s Brazilian goalkeeper saved the result right at the end of the first-half. His super double effort, with the help of the post, helped Di Francesco’s men to go to the break with a precious 2-2.
A completely different second half with the Lupi that managed the peace of the game and collected opportunities to score several goals and kill the match. Manolas found the glory after a corner kick. The Greek defender put the ball in the net with his chest after a deflection.
From that moment, Di Francesco pushed his guys even more. Roma kept the lines very tight and high to intimidate Fiorentina not conceding them any chance for the equalizer.
A simply magnificent Radja Nainggolan who led his teammates performing a total pressing. A player who benefited from the recent call-up for the Belgium national team.
Eusebio Di Francesco wisely made a few changes during the second 45 minutes. Strootman replaced Pellegrini and Perotti got the leading position on the left flank replacing El Shaarawy. As expected, the Argentine winger made the difference and closed the match with a precise shot close to the post after Nainggolan’s great action who recovered the ball and served a perfect pass through for his teammate.
Roma collected its 12th consecutive away win. A magnificent result for a team well thought and well managed by its Italian coach.
