Roma’s three midfielders succumbed against Napoli’s counterparts.

We could summarize yesterday’s match between Roma and Napoli saying that Sarri’s guys outperformed the Lupi in midfield. Hamsik, Allan, and Jorginho played a perfect match demonstrating their ability to support Napoli’s offensive and defensive efforts.

On the other side, De Rossi probably played his worst match since the beginning of the season. Nainggolan didn’t play well too, the Belgian star couldn’t find the right position on the field. Radja didn’t create offensive chances and he couldn’t make an impact because he was trapped within Napoli’s tight lines. Lorenzo Pellegrini made another good performance. The Italian guy is very important for Di Francesco. His pragmatism and mobility helped his teammates.

Hamsik, Allan, and Jorginho put pressure on their opponents and perfectly intercepted Roma’s counterattacks. The three midfielders moved the ball rapidly triggering Napoli’s attacks. Yesterday, they wisely delivered several balls to an inspired Insigne and a devastating Ghoulam. Napoli made the difference attacking from the left side of the field. While Hamsik was very supportive during the offensive phase, Allan and Jorginho covered Ghoulam’s back letting him break into the offensive phase freely.

231 touches for the Hamsik, Allan, and Jorginho, 192 for Pellegrini, Nainggolan, and De Rossi. Although the numerical difference is not relevant, the quality of the passages and the consistency of the performance made the difference.
