Roma’s defeat against Inter trggers doubts on the tactical scheme that Di Francesco is trying to implement. The team seems to be unbalanced. Roma’s midfield line is under pressure.
It’s probabily to early to judge Eusebio Di Francesco‘s work in Rome but in the first two matches of the 2017-18 Serie A, his team demonstrated a certain unbalance on the field.
Today, I want to focus on the midfield line that I believe to be too much under pressure due to Di Francesco’s very offensive tactical scheme. Roma‘s best players, Nainggolan, Strootman, and De Rossi should make the difference but they are not able to do so because they are forced on spending too much energy to cover a wide area of the field.
The 4-3-3 could even be a spectacular scheme to implement but it requires the right players to be effective. Although in yesterday’s match over Inter the Lupi were leading the game until minute 67, the performance of the giallorossi suddenly collapsed unveiling a lack of energy.
The same thing happened a week ago against Atalanta. During the second half, Gasperini‘s boys outperformed Di Francesco’s exhausted players putting in trouble Roma’s defense line several times.
Is 4-3-3 the right tactical scheme for Roma?
My answer is no! However, let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope that I am wrong.
