AS Roma president James Pallotta released an interview to the American Radio station SIRIUS XM wrapping up the actual situation at AS Roma unveiling some of the strategies that the management is going to implement to strengthen the roster. He also spoke about Totti’s doubts and what he believes to be the best choice for the former captain of the Giallorossi.
“Totti has a great reputation, he should try to get the best out of it. He can be a great brand ambassador and make a lot of money with sponsorships and various advertising around the world.
Spalletti is a genius, but at the same time he allowed the Roman media to disturb him too much. I have never criticized him because he saved my a.., last year and this year as well. We knew for some time that he would go. We are going to replace him soon. We are talking with a few guys and even if some complications arised we will announce the new coach within a week.
I met Monchi for the first time nine months ago in London. We liked each other right away. We are fortunate that he has chosen us. He had better offers than ours but if he chose us it means he believes in the project. In these five days the managers and I are in Boston to talk about several things and to plan the transfer market as well.
Salah? There is nothing on the table at this time. We are constantly receiving offers for our players but if we were taking them all seriously 3/4 of our roster would have been sold. We will see what to do. We need 3-4 consistent players on the roster because we will play the Champions League. This season we suffered several injuries which penalized us. Florenzi’s issues made us lose at least 4 points. We also didn’t have offensive deepness. Dzeko scored 39 goals but I don’t know what would have happened if he was injured.
Szczesny tolde me that he would like to remain with us. It was really surprising that many players I thought were ready to go then told me they want to stay with us. This is happening because we have a great group. Monchi will help us to make it deeper and stronger. We have 11 academies in the USA. We will find the best players here and we’ll send them to Italy. Our youngster have so much talent and it will never happen again that they will have to show their skills somewhere else. Then, when the stadium will be ready, everything will change.
Juventus has tradition and a consolidated management. I had to learn several things in the last couple of years. First of all, I had to understand the Italian bank system. Juventus has great midfielders but we are at the same level. They have a better offensive line but the difference on the defense is that they kept the same players for a long time. They are like the Boston Celtics or the Golden State Warriors. Their players know each other very well because they played together for several years. That’s what we have to do as well. We don’t have to consistently trade players anymore.
It’s necessary to build the stadium and I’m positive about the meetings that we had with the Italian authorities. News are coming by mid June but Roma will have a new owner if we will not be able to start the construction in the next two years.”
