De Rossi: “I am the worthy substitute of Totti. My feelings for Roma are the same”

Right after he signed his new 2-year contract with the Giallorossi the new AS Roma captain expressed his happiness for this deal.

“I’ve tried to not cry at the stadium. My wife doesn’t care about football but she was crying too. Roma is our family and it’s different for us. For several years I’ve always worked with 4-5 people, Totti was one of these. Tomorrow I will come to the training center and he will not be here. It’s going to be weird. However, my role doesn’t change much. I will not have specific tasks to cope with. I was already the oldest guy on the roster.

Sunday’s match was amazing even if the joy for my goal last just for a few minutes. We have to transform the sadness in reciprocal help. Our fans were amazing too and I hope they will be with us with the same approach next year.

My contract was already ready but I decided to not reveal the deal because Sunday was Totti’s day. I live this job with professionalism and passion. I am the worthy substitute of Totti. My feelings for Roma are the same. It would have been tough for the Roma fans if Totti and I were leaving at the same time. They don’t deserve this.  The club was very clear with me. They wanted me to stay and I thought a lot about this possibility. I decided to stay and I am happy.

I was crying because Totti is a friend that will not work with me anymore. This is not a tragedy. He is a friend and I will miss him.”
