The Italian sports newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport released an interesting info about the sum of kilos of the AS Roma players and how it compares with the other Serie A teams.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (D. STOPPINI): Check the muscles of the captain and of the whole AS Roma team. There is another team, another AS Roma that in the course of the years has changed skin. It didn’t go to the gym but the restyling comes from far away and has the reassuring face of Federico Fazio, of the perpetually sullen Kevin Strootman, of the bearded Daniele De Rossi, of the fake shy Edin Dzeko, of the fake ingenuous Emerson Palmieri.

Put these guys together and the total is very scary: 42. Forty-two kilograms more on the scale and moreover on the pitch compared to last year’s team. The total count is easy to do: 873 kilos is the sum of the ideal weight of Spalletti’s 11 starters compared to 831 kilos of the 2015-16’s team.

AS Roma has leavened, in short it has more muscles and less creativity. The real numbers are saying that this fact is worth of mention. AS Roma scored 50 goals (only 44 goals last year) and suffered 21 goals (26 last year).

As Spalletti stated in Crotone: “The physicality of the three guys back there gives us some help”.

Those three players are Manolas, Fazio, and Ruediger, the heart of the defensive package that embraces every skill that a coach could desire such as speed, physical presence, experience, personality, and fine touch.

Florenzi is the last man who Spalletti is missing right now. Even Totti recovered from the flu and on Thursday he will leave for Spain.
