On Tuesday night, Roma will be looking to go above Napoli in the Serie A table back into second place with a win over Paulo Sousa Fiorentina side.
Roma are yet to lose at the Stadio Olimpico this season in the league and will be looking for an 11th successive home win of the season. Only FC Porto in the Champions League Qualifier have beaten Roma at the Stadio Olimpico this season.
Roma will be looking to bounce back after losing away at Sampdoria thanks to a late Luis Muriel free kick. Roma should have closed the game out when leading twice but succumbed to the attacking play of Sampdoria and the poor away form for Roma continues. Just a few days later in a sparse Stadio Olimpico, Roma advanced to the latter stages of the Coppa Italia to set up with a semi-final date with city rivals Lazio. Roma struggled against Serie B side Cesena and had 40 year old Francesco Totti to bail them out with a last minute penalty.
Fiorentina will be looking to do the double over Roma after winning at home in late September thanks to Milan Badelj and come into this game picking up seven points from nine. A 3-0 away win at Chievo was followed by a 3-3 home draw at home to Genoa where the Viola threw away a 2-0 lead and a 3-2 lead. Giovani Simeone scored a late penalty to snatch a point for Genoa. Then in midweek Fiorentina travelled to Pescara and won late 2-1 thanks to a late brace from Cristian Tello which included a goal five minutes into added time.
In the last 10 games between Roma and Fiorentina in all competitions since the 2013-14 has seen Roma win 5, draw 2 and Fiorentina winning 3. Out of those three games only one was in the league which was last September. One was in the Coppa Italia where the Viola won 2-0 at the Stadio Olimpico and the other Fiorentina victory was in the same season of 2014-15 in the Europa League where Fiorentina won 3-0 at the Stadio Olimpico winning the tie 4-1 on aggregate.
The last time Roma-Fiorentina played each other was on the 4th matchday in September of the 2016-17 season. Where La Viola won the game 1-0 late on thanks to a Milan Badelj effort from distance which gave Roma their first defeat of the season.
