A brilliant second half fightback from Atalanta gave them the three points in an important home win over Roma.

Roma took the lead thanks to a Diego Perotti penalty. But two goals in the second half from Mattia Caldara and a late penalty from Franck Kessie gave Atalanta the win.

Alejandro Gomez had the first effort on goal for Atalanta but it was a weak effort with his left foot and was straight at Roma goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny. Jasmin Kurtic then had a long range effort from distance which travelled high over the crossbar. Federico Fazio had Roma first effort on goal as a whipped in corner from the left from Salah found Fazio at the backpost but his header looped wide of the goal.

Roberto Gagliardini then fired wide from close range on the angle drive. Edin Dzeko headed just wide for Roma after brilliant work from Diego Perotti on the left hand side. Mohamed Salah then fired straight at the Atalanta goalkeeper Berisha after a fine lofted pass from Edin Dzeko. Salah missed his second one on one in a matter of minutes after a through ball from Nainggolan who found Salah who hit his effort once again at Berisha.

Roma were awarded a penalty on 38 minutes after Rafael Toloi blocked Salah goal bound effort with his hand. Diego Perotti stepped up and slotted the penalty into the bottom corner in ice cool fashion.  Salah missed his third chance of the first half, frustrating to watch. Nainggolan played a lofted ball over the top and Salah for the third time hits his effort straight at Berisha.

Alejandro Gomez teased a lovely right footed cross from the left hand side found Rafael Toloi who headed straight at Szczesny. Gomez then widely fired over with an angle drive as Atalanta were starting to attack Roma more in this second half. Atalanta equalised on the hour in fortunate stances, a cross from the right hand side from Kessie was cleared by Manolas and hit Caldara and looped in into the far corner. Franck Kessie then nearly added a second when Marco D’Alessandro found Kessie on the right hand side of the area but his effort was deflected wide by Bruno Peres.

Atalanta were piling on the pressure and were denied by the upright, Petagna done well to role his defender the ball fell to Remo Frueler who had a deflected effort which hit the post and roll into this arms of Roma goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny. Federico Fazio made a brilliant last ditch block from a Roberto Gagliardini effort which was goal bound and travelling. Gomez then danced past a few Roma players from the left hand but he fired a wayward effort well wide of goal. Atalanta were awarded a penalty on the 89th minute when Leandro Paredes brought down Alejandro Gomez. Franck Kessie stepped up and sent Szczesny the wrong way.

Atalanta deserved that win in the second half, Gian Piero Gasperini made a tactical change bringing on Marco D’Alessandro for Andrea Maisello and it changed the complex of the game. It pushed Franck Kessie into a more advanced role and Roma couldn’t cope with it. Roma tried to sit back and soak all the pressure but couldn’t cope in the end.
