Roma defender Lucas Digne has revealed that joining the Lupi was an easy decision for him and confirmed that the capital city club had been interested in him for quite some time.
The 22-year-old, who arrived at the Giallorossi from Paris Saint-Germain over the summer, admits that he had been looking for more continuity on the pitch and he insists that he’s been enjoying his time in Rome thus far, especially now that the team have begun to find more stability with their results.
Digne spoke to beIN Sports about his decision to join Roma and commented on the Stadio Olimpico outfit’s progress in both the Serie A and the Champions League this season.
“We have found some stability with our results as of late,” said the France international.
“We’re quickly beginning to mold together as a team. The more we play together, the more we figure out which movements to make to find success.
“My decision to come to Rome? It was not a decision based only on faith. I needed to play more and find my form.
“For me, football is a game where I need to play a lot in order to feel comfortable. It was necessary that I found a way to earn more time on the field.
“Having the chance to play in Europe is important for me as well. After my experience at PSG, I was ready to enjoy this new opportunity at Roma.
“There were other teams that were interested in me, but I had immediately decided to join Roma because the Giallorossi have already shown interest in me for several years.
“Another thing was that I had already known coach Rudi Garcia, so I had no doubts that coming to Rome was the right choice.
“The Champions League? I think we could have done much better against BATE Borisov, while against Barcelona we had managed to have a good performance.
“The result against BATE is definitely negative, but the group is still open so we will do everything we can in order to earn qualification for the next round.
“How did it feel to return to the national team? It felt very good, it’s a very close group. I was very happy to be back with France.”
