AS Roma vs Barcelona: humility and dedication to face an uneven match

The upcoming Champions League match between AS Roma and Barcelona represents a tough battle for Garcia’s team. The giallorossi should try to climb a very high and risky mountain.

Right after the Champions League draw most of the AS Roma supporters were celebrating for the tolerable group in which the giallorossi were selected in. The same fans and, I believe, the AS Roma management were thinking about the big clash against the strongest team of Group E, Barcelona. A few hours after, when the calendar of the matches has been listed, everyone discovered that the first Champions League 2015-16 AS Roma match was the one against Louis Enrique’s dream team and the anxiety pumped up.

On Wednesday September 16 th, 2015 the Olimpico stadium in Rome will light up to initiate an extraordinary spectacle. Rudi Garcia will face the former AS Roma Spanish coach Louis Enrique that in the season 2014-15 amazed the world by winning everything that was possible to win with his group of unbelievable super-stars.

It will not be easy for Dzeko & Co. to overcome this huge obstacle, moreover, after the resounding defeat that AS Roma suffered last year against the marvelous Pep Guardiola’s team, Bayern Munich. Probably, the ghosts of that terrifying night are still in the minds of many AS Roma players that in just 90 minutes have seen their certainties disintegrate. The upcoming match against another giant of the world could be for AS Roma the opportunity for a revenge that must be consumed with extreme wisdom and calm. In my opinion, humility and dedication will be necessary attitudes to face an uneven match.

Presumably Barcelona is going to keep the possession of the ball trying to push the giallorossi in their defensive third. Enrique’s enveloping way to play will force the AS Roma fullbacks to remain very low and, moreover, they will not be able to support the offensive trio when Garcia’s guys will try to counterattack. I firmly believe that the key to unlock the match is on the two sides of the field. Digne and Maicon could be involved in the starting 11 and if the French and the Brazilian will be able to win their direct challenges against Barcelona’s fullbacks so the giallorossi could have a chance to collect points. The latest rumors are reporting that Dani Alves will not be part of the match and I reckon that this is a great news for AS Roma due to the speed, quality and endurance of Barcelona’s international.

It’s not useful to spend further words for Barcelona’s offensive trio. Suarez, Messi and Neymar are not stoppable in any way thanks to their unbelievable technique and mobility on the field. I believe that Garcia must rely on his super-fast fullbacks and wingers in order to unbalance Enrique’s module and put them in trouble. Edin Dzeko is the one that should be able to exploit the few opportunities that AS Roma will be able to create…as a great champions should do!
