Roma boss Rudi Garcia has revealed that defender Federico Balzaretti will be in his squad for the capital city club’s upcoming clash with Torino on Sunday.
The 33-year-old hasn’t played a Serie A game since November 2013, as he’s been out nursing a serious pelvic injury for quite some time, though it seems like he may be needed in the Giallorossi line up for their battle with Granata due to the continued absence of defensive players like Maicon and Leandro Castan.
Garcia spoke to the press on Saturday ahead of Sunday’s match against Torino about the conditions of several Roma players and commented on the need for everyone to remain patient as his men fully heal.
“Maicon is getting treatment from a specialist in Barcelona,” said the Frenchman.
“He’s been doing much better but is not yet in a position to return to training with the rest of his teammates.
“He has been able to start running but is most definitely not ready to be called up to the team. Fortunately, we have other solutions.
“Balzaretti has returned to play with the Primavera and has been able to train with the team. It’s clear that he still needs to find his rhythm but he will be with us tomorrow.
“Castan has had a very serious problems and he still needs time to get back into doing everything with his teammates. I hope that he can return to playing before the end of the season.
“The worst is over, it’s clear, but we must not rush anything and be calm in these stages.”
