Roma-Nela: “Sabatini is a magician”

Former AS Roma defender Sebastiano Nela believes that Walter Sabatini, AS Roma Sporting Director, is a magician in trading and discovering players.

Sebastiano Nela, champion of Italy with Roma in 1983, has been interviewed by “Radio Popolare Roma”  and he deeply analyzed Roma’s actual situation and Sabatini’s possible negotiations for the next transfer market session. Nela believes that Khedira could be a possible Roma deal even if the giallorossi have a lot of great players on the midfield.

The former player stated that Roma will invest more to strengthen other sectors of the team because next year Garcia will have Kevin Strootman back which is a leader and a great midfielder:

“Walter Sabatini is a magician in hiding the real negotiations. Most of the newspapers are constantly mentioning about a possible interest for Manchester City’s Milner but it depends what the coach wants to do. Milner became a winger in the last few years and Roma seems to be covered on the offensive sides.”

Nela also responded to hot questions about Daniele De Rossi who in the last period has lived highs and lows. After a horrible performance against Fiorentina in the Europa League the Roman midfielder played really well in the away win against Cesena. Sebastiano Nela is almost sure that the strong Italian midfielder will close his career in Rome:

“De Rossi is a very smart and mature guy. He is capable of deciding what he wants to do with his life. I believe he played a great match against Cesena after the criticisms that he suffered in the last few weeks. I reckon that his desire is to finish his career in Rome.”

Rudi Garcia should recover soon two TOP players such as Maicon and Francesco Totti but Nela believes that this fact is not going to change Roma’s moment:

“I reckon that Roma needs to play as a united team. Even if Totti and Maicon are great players they are not going to re-shape the team. The recent win against Cesena was the key aspect to perfectly recover enthusiasm and prepare the big match against Napoli.”

I believe that one of the most interesting moment of Nela’s interview was when he stated the difference in pursuing players in Italy or in the foreign markets. He stated:

“In Italy the price-tag of the players is higher because there are many friendships that, sometimes, interrupt the negotiations. Moreover, by pursuing players abroad, a team is able to make more profits.”

Undoubtedly, most of the transfer market agents exploit their knowledge of football and their friendships in order to close deals, however, it is definitely true that the Italian market is very costly. I reckon that the AS Roma supporters should be happy about having Sabatini as Sporting Director. He is definitely the best talent scout out there and most of the football experts can just confirm my thesis. Nowadays football is business and I reckon that it’s perfectly normal that Roma trades its players when it receives insane offers. Probably Miralem Pjanic seems to be ready to depart toward Liverpool.

Brendan Rogers, Liverpool’s coach, is deeply “in love” with the Bosnian star and he is ready to seriously bid to pursue him. I believe that if Liverpool’s offer will be insane, Sabatini, on Pallotta’s behalf, must accept it.

Sebastiano Nela can be considered an expert of football and during his interview he labeled Walter Sabatini as “a magician of trading.” I totally agree with his statement and I reckon that we have to believe in Sabatini’s immense knowledge of football because he will be able to strengthen our beloved team.
