Roma-Juventus (2014-15): Probable lineups and stats!

The big match between Roma and Juventus is ready to begin. The first two super powers of the Serie A are going to face each other to decide if the Scudetto saga will end in favor of the Bianconeri or will reopen if the Giallorissi will defeat their bitter rivals.

Roma vs Juventus is more than a match, it is a sort of challenge between two different words and two different ways to see football. The Bianconeri also called “Vecchia Signora” (that in Italian stands for “old lady”) are the historical team of the powerful bourgeois. Juventus is synonymous of power, the same power that they wisely exploit to constantly win and dominate in the Italian football system.

Roma is the anathema of “Amor” (that means “Love” in Italian) and represents the pure and unconditional passion that the AS Roma fans have for their 11 gladiators. There is a proverb that states:

“If you don’t want to suffer you should root for Juventus but if you want to try what the real passion for football is you should be part of the best supporters of the world, the AS Roma Curva Sud.”

Here we are, at the showdown, ready to watch this great spectacle of football in which many stars will face each other to demonstrate their technical superiority. Totti against Chiellini, Nainggolan vs Marchisio, Pogba vs De Rossi and Tevez against Manolas. I could go ahead for a while by listening the many super duels that will trigger the sparks of this match but now is just the moment to check the probable lineups.

Massimiliano Allegri recovered Pobga and Vidal that, just a few days ago, were at the box. However, the Tuscan coach has lost Andrea Pirlo that will be out for around 20 days. Juventus defense line should be composed by Caceres-Chiellini-Bonucci and Evra. On the midfield Allegri should let Pogba, Marchisio, Vidal and Pereyra start, while Juventus’ offensive line will be managed by Tevez and the youngster Morata that in the last period has relegated Llorente on the bench.

Rudi Garcia and his team will try to exploit the positive long wave that came from the recent Europa League win against Feyenoord. The French coach left Doumbia, Maicon and the usual group of injured players at home while he decided to confirm Pjanic on the midfield, even if the Bosnian star is passing through his worst moment at Roma. Garcia’s defense line will be composed of Torosidis, Manolas, Yanga-Mbiwa and Holebas while Roma’s starting midfielders should be Pjanic, Nainggolan, and De Rossi. Totti will lead Roma‘s offensive line by trying to perfectly trigger Gervinho’s speed and Ljajic’s creativity and geniality close to the box.

Probable lineups:

Roma (4-3-3): De Sanctis; Torosidis, Manolas, Yanga-Mbiwa, Holebas; Nainggolan, De Rossi, Pjanic; Gervinho, Totti, Ljajic.

Coach: Garcia

Disqualified: None

Juventus (4-3-1-2): Buffon; Caceres, Bonucci, Chiellini, Evra; Pogba, Marchisio, Vidal; Pereyra; Tevez, Morata.

Coach: Allegri

Disqualified: None

UnavailableAsamoah, Romulo, Marrone, and Pirlo

In order to give you a total view of this fantastic match let’s analyze together a bit of stats. Roma and Juventus faced each other 161 times and the Bianconeri imposed their historical power in 77 matches. This is actually the negative record for the Giallorossi in the Italian Serie A. Roma has lost 5 of the last 6 matches against Juventus and collected just 1 victory. Moreover, Roma draws 6 of the last 7 matches and Garcia’ guys draw the last 5 home matches. Juventus is also unbeaten in the last 15 matches of the Serie A.

The stats are definitely telling us that Juventus seems to be a battleship ready for any type of conflict while, especially in the last period, Roma has lost too many points because of a precarious physical condition. In just a few hours we’ll know if the Giallorossi will be able to reopen the challenge for the title by defeating Allegri’s soldiers. Roma has the quality to impose its way to play and Garcia’s guys demonstrated to be ready for these kind of matches a few months ago in Turin against Juventus. In that controversial match Juventus collected three undeserved points thanks to three irregular goals validated by a referee that didn’t perform well at all…let’s put it in that way!!!
