Chievo Verona-Roma: Match preview!

The upcoming match between Chievo Verona and Roma will better define the future of both teams. Roma needs a win to confirm its second spot in the rankings while Chievo Verona needs points to leave the relegation zone far away.

Chievo VeronaRoma will be a though game for both teams even if the actual gap between them is immense. Roma is still playing for the Scudetto (?) while Chievo’s main goal is to remain in the Serie A. However, the actual moment of the Giallorossi is leaving the final result open to every possibility. Garcia needs a win to inject more confidence within his guys. Probably Totti will not be part of the match and Roma’s defense line is also missing Torosidis and Yanga-Mbiwa because disqualified.

Roma has won the last three Serie A matches against Chievo Verona. The Giallorossi have lost only 1 away match at Chievo on December 2012. Roma must collect the three points even because the Gialloblu are the worst home performer team of the current Serie A. Chievo won only two home matches since the beginning of the season. On the other side Roma is unbeaten in the last 15 matches but Garcia’s team drew 7 of the last 8 Serie A matches played.

I believe that Roma must win this match by putting in place its best characteristic, the ball possession. Thanks to the following graph provided by you can better understand what I mean to say.

Chievo-Roma passess per game stats

Roma performs 609 total passes per game while Chievo Verona only 356. The Giallorossi must be able to create a web of passes in order to discourage the possible counter-attacks that Maran‘s guys will try to perform. However, Garcia’s team must also finalize the opportunities that Roma will be able to create. Without the killer instinct and the ability to score the Giallorossi could face another disappointing result also because Chievo Verona could be really happy to collect one or more points against a top level team as Roma is.
