The final minute of the match between CSKA Moscow and Roma has changed the story of the Group E of the Champions League. The goal scored by the Russian team just 18 seconds before the end of the match oblige Roma to win the last challenge against Manchester City. Rudi Garcia is perfectly aware that this situations can happen because Roma has not been able to score the second goal and when you don’t close a match everything can happen.
Right at the end of the match the AS Roma coach was interviewed by SKY Sport and stated:
“We were close to the end of the match and we should have scored the second goal. We could have been in a better position in our group. We don’t care about what’s going to happen in Manchester because we must win the last match.”
“We could have counter-attacked more but we were really compact on the field. A draw away from home is not a bad result but it is the goal allowed in the last few seconds of the match that changed the perception of the final result. The problem is that we lost this ball that favored their counter-attack but we were defending well during the second half. Strootman must play to fully recover from his injury but if we had scored before we would have won the match.”
“Ours wasn’t a planned tactical attitude. We were defending because CSKA Moscow pushed very well during the second half. We tried to keep our defensive line high but we couldn’t do that. We knew that they have strong players and we didn’t think about the results of the first match against them.”
“We get to the last match with the hope to pass the group and this is fantastic. Especially because most of the people were stating that we couldn’t play against these teams. We played to win the match but we got a draw which is still a useful result.”
