Roma-Cagliari 2-0: MVP Florenzi nuts and bolts!

Data by Opta Stats

Yesterday’s match between Roma and Cagliari cannot be remembered as one of the best matches of the season because Gracia’s boys have not suffered so much to collect the 3 points. After a great start of the match Roma just managed the possession of the ball thanks to their great midfielders and secure defenders.

It was a bit difficult to decide the MVP of the match also because AS Roma’s players just attacked Cagliari for no more than 15 minutes. Yes, because in that amount of time they were able to score 2 goals and create a couple of other dangerous occasions to increase the gap between the two teams. In order to nominate the MVP I decided to take into account only the first half of the match and my special mention goes to Alessandro Florenzi.

In yesterday’s match Alessandro Florenzi will be remembered by all for what he did inside and outside the pitch. His lovely hug with his grandmother that was sitting on the stands is just a tasty chocolate. That scene is the beauty part of football that we would always like to see. Inside the playing pitch his performance was remarkable as well because he served a great assist to Mattia Destro letting him score the first goal and because he closed the match with a diagonal shot that has struck the opposing goalkeeper.

Statistics tell us that during the first 45 minutes of the match Alesandro Florenzi was able to create a great chance for his team…as I previously said Destro scored an easy goal a few steps away from the net. The Italian handyman played a key role to unlock the match by often moving on the attacking third zone of the pitch. He seriously confused Cagliari’s defense line that wasn’t able to stop him to serve good assist to his teammates. Acting as a proper winger he served a great assist for Destro but playing behind the Italian striker he also allowed Maicon to come up and create the numerical superiority. From the attacking third zone he completed 8 out of 14 passes but we have to think that he was able to speed up the game to his liking. Maicon’s good performance is also due to Florenzi’s different radius of action.

As I previously stated Roma’s second half cannot be properly analyzed because they decided to switch off the light and play in safe mode!

My Roma-Cagliari’s MVP is Alessandro Florenzi…Do you guys agree with me?
