Garcia: “There won’t be a Roma A and a Roma B”

AS Roma’s coach, Rudi Garcia, held the press conference in order to speak about the match that Roma will play against Empoli. The French coach also spoke about the physical condition of some players…

The match against Empoli…

“I believe that it’s up to me to ensure the players stay focused on the next game. I don’t even remember who we’re playing in the Champions League. We are preparing the match against Empoli very well as well as we did for the match against Fiorentina. We’ve had two full days to work with all the players. We have to show that two days are enough to be competitive. You’ll see if Destro is playing tomorrow because you’ll see my line-up tomorrow. Every player on the roster is important and apart from Strootman and Balzaretti they’re all available to play. It’s good to have an abundance of options. Against Empoli won’t be an easy match and we have nothing to gain since we’re down as everyone’s favorites. They have enthusiasm due to their return in to the Serie A and they will want to do a good performance. We have to be careful.”

The heavy scchedule…

“There won’t be a Roma A and a Roma B. I’ll decide the starting lineup based on what I see during the training sessions. I don’t try to work everything out in advance, I just focus on the next game. After Empoli, I’ll have to think about many other things to decide my next line-up. We have six games in 17 days but it’s not a problem now. Some problems may arise after the fourth or fifth game. My only concern is our African players who played 90 minutes.”

Maicon’s issue…

“He wasn’t summoned against Fiorentina because he hadn’t had a full week’s training with the rest of the team. Then we decided to send him with his national team so that he had been able to play a friendly match. It’s a good thing that he played for 90 minutes. Now he’s ready to play with us as well. In Brazil he made a mistake and he paid for it. There’s no need to add anything else.”

The defense line…

“The main thing is to have two quality options for each position. I’m happy with Cole because he’s improving as well as with Emanuelson  who is able to properly perform our offensive tactics. We decided to pursue Holebas because Balzaretti is still recovering and he will need a few more weeks of therapies.”

Benatia’s issue…

“Sabatini has already spoke about this matter and I prefer to talk about tomorrow’s match. Benatia is no longer a Roma player and I have nothing more to say about him. I’m happy with the roster at my disposal. Tomorrow I only hope to see my players with the same desire that they demonstrated against Fiorentina. I’m not only talking about the starting lineup but about those who came off the bench as well. What I have seen against Fiorentina reminded me last year performances. We need that will to win.”

Gervinho and Ljajic’s physical conditions…

“I believe that Ljajic is perfectly fine. Gervinho and Keitafollowed personalized training programs after returning from their respective international matches. However, they will be available for tomorrow’s match. We’re still at the start of the season and the physical condition of our players is generally good for everyone.”
